The team devises a plan to enter Fischer's dreams and plant the idea of dissolving his father's business empire. However, things become increasingly complicated as Cobb's own past and guilt start to intrude on the mission. He carries emotional baggage related to his deceased wife, Mal (played by Marion Cotillard), who frequently appears in his dreams as a malicious and manipulative presence.
